Teriyaki Salmon
Nothing makes my day like an easy-to-cook, yummy meal waiting in my freezer. This gorgeous Teriyaki Salmon freezer meal always brings a smile to my face. Pull it out to thaw the night before, slap it on the BBQ, and in no time at all, you have a restaurant-quality meal on the table.
It’s actually even better than a restaurant because when you make it at home, you know exactly who touches it and what goes into it. Baked salmon is just one of many freezer meal recipes and meal plans available when you join our Freezer Meals 101 Club.
Teriyaki Salmon Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 lb. salmon fillets, pin bones removed. (see note below)
- 1/3 cup low sodium soy sauce
- 1/4 cup orange juice. Use rice wine or white wine instead to cut down on the sweetness.
- 1/4 cup water
- 2 Tbsp. honey, melted. Brown sugar is a common alternative.
- 2 clove garlic, minced. Nothing beats the freshness of real garlic cloves for a marinade. Invest in a garlic press to make this easier.
- 1 Tbsp. fresh ginger, minced
- 1 tsp. chili flakes. This ingredient is optional if you aren’t a fan of heat. You can also adjust the amount according to your taste.
- 2 Tbsp. green onion, sliced
- 2 tsp. sesame seeds
- 1 large (gallon) freezer bag or reusable silicone bag
Note about the pin bones: I’d like to think when I buy boneless salmon it won’t have any bones, but recently I’ve found that’s not the case. Always check the salmon for pin bones, which can be very dangerous and are easily removed if you find them still sticking around. Tweezers make their removal easier.

Teriyaki Salmon Recipe Ideas
Okay, you can keep this really, really simple and just buy a teriyaki marinade and add the green onions and sesame seeds. It’s not as cheap, but it is the fastest, easiest way to make this freezer meal in a bag. In certain seasons of life, easy is way more important than inexpensive. Also, you can find those marinades on good sales occasionally. Keep an eye out for coupons or sales and stock up!
Try different flavor profiles. If you are stocking up on salmon for the freezer, make a variety of different marinades for the meat. We have so many great recipes! Try Everything Bagel Salmon, Make Ahead Mustard Crusted Salmon, or Dill Salmon Freezer Meal just to get you started.
Go with a different fish. You can use this marinade with Mahi Mahi, Tuna, or Steelhead Trout. You can also use this same marinade with chicken or shrimp.
One of the beautiful things about freezer meals is that it gets easier to customize meals for your family. If only a couple of people enjoy seafood, consider halving this recipe, and making a batch of teriyaki chicken for the rest of your group. You can use the same marinade recipe with boneless chicken thighs. As an added bonus, this keeps the cost down.
This dish can also be made in the air fryer and will take a little less time than baking it in the oven.
How do I store Teriyaki Salmon Leftovers
Keep leftovers for one or two days only in an airtight refrigerator container. If you know you won’t get to the leftovers in a couple of days, put them straight in the freezer. Salmon is expensive enough I do not want to waste those leftovers!
How do I reheat salmon?
Fish like salmon can be reheated in an air fryer or skillet for a few minutes and ready to eat. Just make sure it reaches 165ºF for food safety. Salmon reheated in a microwave smells up the kitchen, the break room, the entire house, and all food cooked in that same microwave for the next week, so do your family a favor and don’t use this appliance to reheat fish.
What to Serve with Teriyaki Salmon
Girl, this dish goes with anything. We love to serve it over white jasmine rice with roasted broccoli on the side. If you have a double oven, you can roast the broccoli tossed in salt and pepper and olive oil at the same time as you roast the fish; but only for about ten minutes. It’s also lovely served with a miso salad or Asian sesame salad or roasted asparagus. I’m always a fan of garlic bread on the side.
Make it extra special with five or six sautéed shrimp for each family member or guest.
