Will smoked sausage work?
While technically kielbasa (a heavily spiced garlic Polish sausage) is the traditional one to use, any ring sausage like smoked sausage or andouille will work. The flavors of the dish will change slightly, and you might want to add minced garlic to the dish.
Why does this recipe call for low sodium broth?
The cream cheese, sausage, pierogies are all very salty off the shelf, so it is best to use reduced sodium broth and add salt at the table if it is actually needed. Regular broth has a very high salt content not needed with the other ingredients in the dish.
Since it calls for softened cream cheese anyway, can I used Whipped Cream Cheese in the little tubs?
No. It’s a completely different product with added ingredients and will not behave like regular cream cheese set out to room temperature. I recommend buying the regular, full-fat block of cream cheese.

Crockpot Pierogi Recipe Ideas
Common accompaniments for pierogies include sautéed onions and mushrooms, sour cream, or a sauce that combines mustard and horseradish. Any of these things could be used as toppings for the pierogi casserole. Another common addition is crumbled bacon, which would be very decadent added to the sausage already in the dish.
Use a slow cooker liner to keep your clean-up to a minimum. Just toss the disposable liner and wipe the edges if needed!
Not a fan of sausage links? Try ground beef instead! Season your ground beef with a no salt seasoning mix, or just salt, garlic and pepper so that it isn’t bland.
Our recipe is pretty simple and straightforward with minimal seasoning. One of the easiest ways to change up the recipe is to add different seasonings and try different flavors of sausage. Garlic, red pepper flakes for heat, oregano, and cinnamon are all flavors I would recommend. You can also pick your favorite pre-mixed blend of seasoning to add to the pot.
How do I store Crockpot Pierogi?
Leftovers should be refrigerated and will keep for a few days in an airtight container. Reheat leftovers in a skillet or microwave.
