Turkey Vegetable Chowder Tips & Variations:
Creating recipes that can work with your life, your ingredients, your dietary restrictions, and your preferences is at the core of what we do. We’ve tested each and every recipe to ensure it freezes well and tastes great, but we always like to include some suggestions, tips, and variations for our community members.

- Bacon strips vs bacon bits? Nothing beats the salty smokiness of real strips of bacon crumbled into a chowder like this one. But, if you don’t have bacon on hand or are looking for a budget-friendly alternative, grab a few tablespoons of bacon bits to use in place.
- Why hash browns? Raw potatoes don’t freeze well. We’ve tested just about every method to make sure, and the answer is still a resounding “don’t freeze potatoes raw.” That’s why we love frozen cubed hash browns: they provide the same bulk and taste for your soup without turning mushy and unappetizing.
- Veggie alternatives? In place of carrots, parsnips are a great alternative. They deliver the same firm texture and earthy sweetness. You could also throw in some cauliflower. It would do a great job of adding crunch and complementing the creamy chowder base.
- No turkey on hand? No worries. Chicken will work just fine in its place. Bite sized ham or pork chunks also work well, although they will change the flavour pretty significantly.
- Purpose of the corn starch and sour cream mixture? You don’t want to skip this step! Adding the mixed corn starch and sour cream mixture just before pulling the Turkey Vegetable Chowder off the stove will add extra thickness and creaminess to your dish. Without it, you won’t get the familiar texture and flavour that make chowders so enjoyable.
