Sesame Steak

Several people in my house are meat and potato types. They would be happy if I served meat and potatoes at every meal for months on end! When nothing but this classic combination will do, turn to our Sesame Steak freezer meal recipe. It’s a nice alternative to casseroles and one-pot skillet meals (which we also love) and brings so much flavor to the dinner table.

Sesame Steak freezer meal is shown in freezer bags, and after it is cooked, it is shown served on a plate with potato salad and broccoli salad.

How can I tell when my steak is ready?

The easiest way to tell if your steak has reached the desired doneness is to insert an instant-read thermometer into the thickest part of the steak. Here is a guide for temperature ranges.

Can I Bake Sesame Steak instead of using the grill?

Yes. Preheat your oven to 425ºF. Sear the steak in a very hot cast iron skillet. Once it has a good sear, move it to the oven and let it bake until your steak reaches the desired doneness according to the temperature. Don’t forget to let it rest before serving.

Is Sesame Steak Gluten-Free?

Soy sauce naturally contains gluten which many people do not realize, so if you want to make this recipe gluten-free, be sure to find a Tamari Soy sauce that says gluten-free on the label or use a GF coconut amino sauce instead. This is the only change necessary.

Sesame Steak Recipe Ideas

Bring on the sesame. For a little extra crunch and flavor, toast some sesame seeds to sprinkle over your saucy steak at the table. Use a half teaspoon of sesame oil in the sauce to bump up the flavor. This should be added after the sauce is thawed.

Sweeten it up. A little brown sugar in the sauce adds just the right amount of sweetness when you want that touch. I would add a teaspoon or so and taste to adjust.

Want a bit of heat? Add red pepper flakes or ancho chili powder to the spice mixture in with the pork.

Garnish with flavor. Tossing a few diced green onions over each sauced steak as it is served is another option to change things up.

Take it to the next level. Grilled pineapple would be a beautiful accompaniment to this dish. You can grill it at the same time as the steak. Pineapple can also be cooked in a cast iron skillet. Cook the pineapple until it starts to caramelize, which adds sweetness. Another alternative would be to dice up pineapple and add it to the sauce.

Double the recipe. If you have more people to serve or want to make sure you have leftovers, it is easy to double this recipe.

How do I store Sesame Steak?

Keep leftovers in the refrigerator in an airtight container for up to three days. Freeze leftovers in an airtight container for up to three months. Freeze the steaks in individual microwaveable serving containers to make them on-the-go-ready for school or work.

What to do with the leftovers?

You can use the leftovers in different ways. Consider slicing the leftovers to make a steak sandwich. Use sliced leftover steak on a sesame ginger salad or add it to a can of vegetable soup. Try slicing up the steak to make a street taco with pickled onions and ginger sauce drizzle. Leftovers do not have to be boring!

How to Reheat Sesame Steak?

Individual servings can be reheated in the microwave for one to two minutes, longer if frozen. Multiple servings can be placed on a sheet pan and reheated in the oven at 400ºF until heated through.

What to Serve with Sesame Steak?

We love potato and broccoli salad with our sesame steak, but the side dish possibilities are endless. Make-Ahead Cowboy Baked Beans would be yummy with the steak. Another great idea would be Make-Ahead Garlic Mashed Potatoes. A bright Asian-inspired salad would be a nice contrast.
