Did you know you can marinate chicken and freeze it for later? Usually, marinades call for soaking overnight and then cooking the next day. Why not try this? Place the chicken in the marinade, freeze it, and thaw it a month or two later for cooking. As the chicken freezes and as it thaws overnight in the fridge, it soaks in the marinade. Our Honey Mustard Chicken Burgers are easy to marinate, easy to cook and positively delicious.
Anything you can marinate now and throw on the grill later makes an amazing freezer meal. We love this chicken, but it is just one example of this type of easy, hot meal you can serve your family on busy weeknights when firing up the grill seems right. This recipe is in our BBQ Freezer Stack Meal Plan.

How many calories is in a chicken burger?

Are chicken burgers good for you?
This depends on how the chicken is prepared and what is added to your sandwich. If you want to keep it light, choose a low or no-carb bun, vegetable toppings, and minimal condiments. It’s also a good idea to ask “compared to what?” Compared to a ground beef burger, yes for sure! Compared to a bread-free meal? Maybe not so much.
How can I toast my brioche bun for this burger?
Heat up a small amount of butter in a skillet. Add a bun inside face down. Let it toast for a few minutes till it starts to get crispy. Remove it and serve. You can do this dry if you don’t want to add butter or calories. If you have a large skillet, it is okay to toast several buns at once. Another option is to butter the insides of each bun, lay them out on a sheet pan, and place them under the broiler for one or two minutes. Keep a close eye on it when using this method because it works fast.

You can even use a store-bought marinade in a pinch. Let’s keep it real — sometimes we need the “easy button” even when assembling freezer meals to make our lives easier.
Not a fan of heat? You can leave out the red pepper flakes or soften the heat by subbing in a dash of ancho chili pepper instead.
Want more heat? Add a diced jalapeno or habanero pepper or two to your bag. Remove the seeds first unless *on fire* is your jam.
A whole new bun. Have you ever considered all the different types of buns on the market? Using something different, from pretzel buns to sourdough to brioche, every time you stack a sandwich is a great way to add variety and switch things up.
